About Us

Westoe Travel is an award winning family owned Independent business based in South Shields, Tyne Wear.
We have established this business from scratch starting as a desk in the back of the family newsagents over 25 years ago to now being the biggest retail travel agent in the UK for the sale of UK holidays and breaks.
This has been achieved while maintaining excellence in customer services and ‘the family business that cares’ ethos.
We have competed against and overtaken multiple travel agents both in terms of sales of UK products and more importantly in customer service
We have also been accepted as members of AITO Specialist Travel Agents, giving us the ability to sell over 100 tour operators products not available in most High Street Travel Agents.

New Legislation from 1 October 2012, to protect travellers, requires tour operators to give an ATOL certificate to customers when they book a holiday including a flight.
Westoe Travel are proud to be one of the first companies in the country to provide this service.
All customers booking a holiday at Westoe Travel, including a flight, will receive an ATOL certificate from the Tour Operator in addition to their normal documents at the time of booking. Westoe Travel only deal with operators who comply with this legislation.

Westoe Travel is not aligned with any particular tour operator therefore, you will find that we provide a truly impartial holiday service that suits your individual needs. In the interests of consumer protection all ABTA members, including Westoe Travel, are fully bonded.
We are members of the Advantage Travel Consortium to enable us to obtain better commercial deals for our customers and for the provision of technical support. We retain our independence.

Westoe Travel CSR Policy
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to an organisation's ethical responsibilities and commitments towards their stakeholders and the environment in which they operate. It is a concept which encourages organisations to look at how their business activities affect customers, suppliers, employees, communities and the environment.

As a responsible retailer, owned by the Brett family, we believe that the long-term future of the business is best served by respecting the interests of all our stakeholders: Staff, customers, suppliers and the wider community. We look actively for opportunities to improve the environment and to contribute to the wellbeing of the community in which we trade. Our CSR policy sets out the principles we follow and the programmes we have developed to focus on the areas where we have significant impact or influence.

We are working to reduce our office waste and ensure that all waste we do produce is handled by responsible sources and recycled wherever possible. We have already introduced a recycling collection scheme for our waste paper, cardboard, tins, cans, plastic and printer cartridges and have recently added further recycling initiatives for batteries and computer equipment. We currently recycle over 98% of our waste. We have also been successful in moving many of our customer booking confirmations and invoices from print to email, cutting down significantly on paper use. We have introduced further initiatives. These include using energy saving devices and implementing an energy saving policy encouraging all staff to switch off electrical appliances when they are not in use to ensure we conserve as much energy as possible.
Responsible travel is quickly becoming a part of everybody's life. It is well documented that train travel is the 'greenest' form of transport and as a result of this we have increased our promotion of rail with our UK hotel bookings. As well as offering special rail + hotel deals, we also sell rail travel options for customers travelling to UK Airports. We are the largest agency for the sale of rail and hotel packages in the UK having won the Brit Award from Superbreak in June 2011 for the second year running.


Shared responsibility
Social and environmental responsibility involves everyone. In our own case, Westoe Travel's family structure means that we share the responsibilities of ownership as well as its rewards. We aim to develop and implement social and environmental policies which fit in with our staff and customers everyday activities and responsibilities.
We are working with a number of local schools and colleges at various levels to provide workplace visits and assist with Business Studies and Leisure & Tourism coursework.

Honesty and accountability
Family ownership means that we care more about our business and customers. We will communicate our environmental policies, objectives and performance openly and honestly to everyone with an interest in our activities, including customers and suppliers. We will encourage them to communicate with us and will seek their views.

Sustainable progress
We are committed to improving our performance. We will take into account technical developments, changing scientific evidence, costs and customer concerns and expectations in the development and implementation of all new social and environmental policies and procedures. We will monitor our performance and set objectives for improvements.

Demonstrable compliance
As an absolute minimum, we will meet or exceed all relevant legislation. Where no legislation exists we will seek to develop and implement our own appropriate standards.


We will take all reasonable steps to manage our operations so as to minimise our environmental impact and to promote good environmental practice. We will continue to review regularly our business practices and performance to identify how we can improve our energy efficiency, minimise packaging, increase recycling and reduce water usage, waste disposal and air emissions. We currently recycle 98% of our waste.

We will conduct our business relationships with integrity and courtesy, and honour our trading commitments. Our aim is to build long-term relationships with our suppliers and customers and provide support for small, specialist suppliers. We are committed to trading fairly with all our suppliers and customers, and will communicate our responsible sourcing expectations to them in the areas of health, safety and worker welfare, sustainable and profitable agriculture, high animal welfare standards, biodiversity and good environmental practice.

We will build relationships with our customers, suppliers and the local communities we are part of by encouraging our Partners to consider the needs of others and involve themselves in public service. We will obtain a wide range of views on our social and environmental policies and performance. We support many local sports teams including Westoe Rugby Club and South Tyneside Gymnastics Club and have supported many local sports teams and community events

We will respect our staff and encourage their development and training. We will promote equality as differences in responsibilities permit and consider the interests of our staff including their welfare, health and safety. We aim to empower our staff and we will recognise individual contributions and reward our staff fairly.
