Your Base: North Cyprus Hotels in Kyrenia
Offering a range of hotels and a welcome every bit as warm as its idyllic setting, this unspoilt resort on Cyprus' northern coast is just a short way from the Gothic ruins of Lawrence Durrell's beloved Bellapais. The resort offers many opportunities to explore the surrounding waters - snorkelling, fishing or simply cruising the coastline - and the foothills of the Pentadaktylos (five-fingered) mountains.
Optional Excursions
Those wishing to explore will have the chance to join a range of optional excursions (listed below), which will be offered on specific days during your stay. Simply select your chosen excursion(s) from the list when booking.
Kyrenia harbour and castle tour
Join our guide and spend a morning exploring Kyrenia. Stroll around the harbour, then head to the castle, which watches over the harbour from the east and now houses a fascinating shipwreck museum within its massive walls.
St Hilarion Castle and Bellapais Abbey
Journey into a beautiful region of mountains dotted with ancient villages leading down to a tranquil coastline. Here, you'll visit hilltop St Hilarion Castle - which guards the route from Nicosia and Kyrenia and started life as a monastery - and Gothic Bellapais Abbey, made famous by author Lawrence Durrell.
Nicosia tour
Visit historic Nicosia, island capital for more than 12 centuries. Divided in 1963 by the 'Green Line' separating Greek and Turkish Cypriot territories, the city is both a bustling metropolis, with a vibrant cafe culture, and a fascinating gateway to the island's turbulent past.
Guzelyurt and Soli
Discover the citrus-grove surrounded town of Guzelyurt (which means "beautiful place" in Turkish) and its archaelogy museum and church of Agios Mamas. We'll also visit the fascinating excavations at Soli, with its Roman and Byzantine remains, and travel to the 'Green Line' border town of Lefke, with its former copper mines and orange groves.
Famagusta. Travel into eastern Cyprus to call at the monastery of St Barnabas, and visit the extraordinary ancient ruins at Salamis on today's optional excursion. The remains, which include colonnades, a magnificent theatre and a Roman bathhouse, were part of a much larger settlement that still lies submerged beneath the blue waters and sand dunes.. Moving on, we'll visit Famagusta. This fascinating city has become a living museum where ruined churches, the Lala Mustapha Pasha mosque (once the city cathedral) and Venetian Palace rise in in between the city's modern cafes and shops, and the Varosha quarter remains a ghost town since it was abandoned in 1974.
Karpaz Peninsula tour. The Karpaz, or Karpasia, peninsula is a rugged spit of land dotted with ancient villages surrounded by some of Cyprus's loveliest beaches and bluest waters. Visit an ancient olive press, and see the important mosaics at Agios Trias. Weather permitting, you'll also have time to enjoy a dip in the sea at Nangomi (golden) Beach, one of the island's finest bathing spots.

North Cyprus Tour Itinerary
Day One: Fly to Cyprus

Fly from the UK to Larnaca, then travel through the Cyprus countryside to Kyrenia and your chosen hotel.

Day Two: Included guided tour of Kyrenia
The delightful port of Kyrenia, sits in a natural horseshoe-shaped harbour beside pristine azure waters. The harbourside shops, cafes and restaurants are still watched over by the imposing castle, that has guarded the port since the 16th Century. Within the massive castle walls you'll find a fascinating shipwreck museum, and a gallery of archaeological finds from the surrounding area.

After your tour you'll be free to return to your hotel by coach, explore the town or take a seat in one of the harbour's delightful cafes or fish restaurants.

Day Three: Included St Hilarion and Bellapais day trip
The magnificent mountain-top castle of St Hilarion, which boasts spectacular views of the coastline and surrounding mountains, is your first stop, today. In the foothills below lies the idyllic village of Bellapais and the ruins of Bellapais Abbey. Celebrated novelist Lawrence Durrell lived here for three years, and recorded his stay in his novel 'Bitter Lemons'. After time to explore, you'll return to Kyrenia.

Day Four: Included Nicosia city tour
The highlight of today will be your visit to Nicosia. Capital of Cyprus for more than 12 centuries, and separated into a Turkish north and Greek south since the Green Line was first drawn, in 1963.

In the northern territory, Lefkosa, you'll see the 15th-century Buyuk Han, once the largest caravanserai (roadside inn) on Cyprus and now a popular arts centre, the colourful covered bazaar and the cathedral/mosque of Selimiye/St Sophia. After crossing into the southern territory, Lefkosia, you'll have free time to explore the narrow streets that shelter within the Venetian walls of the old town. Why not visit tiny St John's Cathedral or one of the various museums of Cypriot history and culture before we return to Kyrenia.

Day Five: Optional Guzelyurt and Lefke day trip
Enjoy the hotel and its surroundings, head into Kyrenia once again, or join our optional excursion to the citrus-grove surrounded town of Guzelyurt. The town's name means "beautiful place" in Turkish, and you'll have time to see its archaeology museum and church of Agios Mamas before we continue to the Roman and Byzantine ruins at Soli, and the Green Line border town of Lefke.

Day Six: Included Famagusta tour
Today we travel into eastern Cyprus to call at the monastery of St Barnabas, and visit the extraordinary ancient ruins at Salamis. The remains, which include colonnades, a magnificent theatre and a Roman bathhouse, were part of a much larger settlement that still lies submerged beneath the blue waters and sand dunes. From Salamis you'll head to Famagusta. Here ruined churches, the Lala Mustapha Pasha mosque (once the city cathedral) and Venetian Palace rise in amongst the city's modern cafes and shops, and the Varosha quarter remains a ghost town since it was abandoned in 1974.

Day Seven: Included Karpaz Peninsula tour
Our final excursion takes us into the Karpaz (Karpasia) peninsula. This a rugged spit of land surrounded by blue waters is home to ancient villages and herds of wild donkeys, and boasts some of the island's most stunning beaches. Visit an ancient olive press, and see the intricate mosaics at Agios Trias, and perhaps stop for a swim at a beautiful beach (weather permitting). You'll return to Kyrenia to enjoy your final dinner at your hotel.

Day Eight: Fly back to the UK
Say goodbye to your Cypriot hosts, and return to Larnaca Airport to check in for your flight home.
