TOURIST TAX
Edinburgh's tourist tax, the Visitor Levy, starts July 24, 2026, charging 5% on paid overnight accommodation (hotels, B&Bs, self-catering, etc.), capped at five nights, to fund local services and infrastructure, with funds reinvested into affordable housing, public spaces, and tourism facilities. It applies to bookings from that date onwards for stays within the city, with exemptions for certain vulnerable groups, and covers the accommodation cost before VAT but not extras like meals or parking.
